ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the City Government will have to slash its expenditures and give more priorities to essential projects after the city's Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share was decreased.
Treñas, however, assured Thursday that the services of the City Government most especially the City Hall will not be affected by the expenditure cuts.
According to Treñas, the move is necessary so the city could decide, which office to prioritize when it comes to expenses.
He added that some projects will not be implemented due to the expenditure cut. However, he said they will still prioritize projects that are immediately needed by the public.
Also, in connection to the expenditure cuts and the impending increase in the generation charge of Panay Electric Company (Peco), Treñas said the City Government will be doing some power saving measures as the city uses a lot of energy from Peco.
According to him, the fluorescent lights in the City Hall will be replaced with power saving light bulbs and the streetlights around the city will be rearranged so as to not consume a lot of electricity.
He furthered that they would still look for more ways to save energy consumption.
"We have no choice. We have to reduce our power consumption to save a lot. The city pays millions to PECO and presently we are trying to do some saving measures," Treñas said.
