Friday, August 29, 2008 Police given ultimatum to solve Del Castillo case By Jay Dooma Balnig
JUSTICE Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. set an ultimatum for city police to come up with an investigation output that establishes identity of the suspects and the motive in the killing of Iloilo Provincial Fire Marshall Casiano Del Castillo in Arevalo.
Gonzalez gave Ilolo City Police (Icpo) Chief Bartolome Tobias until Friday, August 29, to come up with the probe results.
Last Monday, Gonzalez said he received information regarding the identity of the suspects and had relayed it to the police to aid their operation.
The justice secretary asserted that the suspects are hiding in La Paz district. He did not elaborate though on the profile of the suspects.
Del Castillo is the second casualty of the guns-for-hire activities in the city of Iloilo.
Arevalo PNP Chief Federico Silvestre said they have already identified the suspects and that the charges are ready for filing.
Silvestre added that the charges are scheduled to be filed Thursday at the Iloilo City Prosecutors Office.
Mayor Jerry Treñas however insisted that the city remains safe to live in despite the series of killings and robbery hold-up occurrences in the recent quarter.
