Councilor sponsors mass baptism for kids

AS PART of his post birthday celebration, "Ang Tingog sang Kabataang Ilonggo" advocate Iloilo City Councilor Nielex "Lex" Tupas conducted a special project dubbed the "1st Bunyag sa Syudad" last August 29.

A kids' party for the Bantay Bata Iloilo Kids held last August 23 at the Bantay Bata office at the Lopez Arcade, Jaro was followed by the Bunyag sa Syudad on August 29 in meaningful celebration of the councilor's 29th natal day.

Tupas, the youngest councilor in Iloilo City, celebrated his 29th birthday by sponsoring a mass baptism for 29 kids from various city barangays and districts.

Most of the kids' families were hard hit by the typhoon and some just were indigents who couldn't afford to have the usual baptism ceremony in the church.

After the baptism held in Alta Tierra Parish in Jaro district, a sumptuous reception followed at the SM City Activity Center, which catered to 200 guests.

The guests include the children baptized, their families, closest friends, members of the media, staff of Councilor Tupas and his loved ones, and event partners such as ABS-CBN Iloilo, Alta Tierra Parish, Pepsi Iloilo, Iloilo Hotel and Restaurant Association, Amigo Plaza Hotel, Al Dente, AMA Computer College Jaro, Iloilo City Hall Press Corps, Nong Gaspar, Ta Hazel, Nong Robert, Glecas Catering, and people who believe in helping the Ilonggo kids.

The colors of blue and orange -- Tupas' signature colors -- dominated the reception area. His favorite food was also served.
