Saturday, September 06, 2008 Cops win Binalaybay contest
TWO police officers bested four other participants in the Binalaybay Contest by the 14th National Crime Prevention Week-Technical Working Group (NCPW-TWG) held at the Audio-Visual Room of the University of Iloilo on Saturday.
Police Officer (PO) II Olivia Talaban-Equipado, Women and Children Concern Desk PNCO of Guimaras Police Provincial Office, garnered the First Place while POII Francisco B Lindero Jr., the Regional Public Information Office PNCO of Police Regional Office 6, finished Second Place.
Jail Officer (JO) II Richard Anasta of Bacolod City Jail, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), landed Third Place.
The Binalaybay Contest was part of the NCPW-TWG activities here, as the country celebrates the National Crime Prevention Week from September 1-7.
Six uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), BJMP, and Bureau of Fire joined in the contest.
Other contestants were: Fire Officer I Arlene DN Mecinas, Acting Chief of Personnel Division, Bureau of Fire Protection-Regional Office; JO2 Alejandro C Deza Jr. of Iloilo City District Jail, BJMP; and, JOI Juniver Rey Umadhay of San Carlos City Jail, BJMP.
NCPW-TWG chairperson, Director Honey F Paredes, lauded the participants for their boldness to accept the challenge despite short notice of the contest.
She also thanked the sponsors of the cash prizes for the participants.
They were: Director Rolando M. Asis of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Chief of Regional Comptroller Division of PRO-6, Police Senior Superintendent Prudencio T Bañas; City Director, Police Senior Superintendent Bartolome C Tobias, of Iloilo City Police Office; Manager Alfredo L. Tayo of Postal Ban; and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
The jurors of the contest were from the Secondary Education Division of the Department of Education - Regional Office 6: Mr. Eduardo V. Peñaranda, Assistant Chief and Officer-in-Charge, as Chief Judge, with Mrs. Novelyn M. Vilchez, Education Supervisor II (Social Studies) and Mr. Jude Thaddeus I.
