Sunday, September 07, 2008 PRO 6 gets patrol cars and motorcycles
THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 acquired an additional 12 Hi-Lux patrol jeeps and four Honda motorcycles to boost mobility and police visibility operations against criminality and insurgency in the region.
PRO 6 Director Isagani R. Cuevas said this acquisition is still part of the P322-million outlay for patrol cars, troop carriers, motorcycles and handguns provided by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Funds were taken from a P1-billion supplemental budget for the Philippine National Police (PNP) last January.
Aside from more vehicles, the PNP will also procure handguns and communication equipment. Likewise, the supplemental budget includes the hiring of 3,000 more personnel this year.
Cuevas said that the 12 new patrol jeeps and four Honda motorcycles will mark a significant improvement in the capability of police units for more aggressive patrol operations and quicker response to call for police assistance.
These vehicles will be issued to the different police units in the Provinces of Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Aklan. (NVB)
