Tuesday, September 09, 2008 Iloilo celebrates IT week
THE Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (IFIT) is once more spearheading this year's Information Technology (IT) Week that will again boost the city and province's bid as an IT destination of the Philippines.
Activities will kick off on September 9 with a motorcade, opening program, and launching of exhibits at the Gaisano City mall here.
Commissioner Monchito Ibrahim of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology will keynote the event.
There will also be an Investment Forum to be facilitated by the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation on Tuesday.
Other slated activities during the IT Week that will run until September 12 are IFIT general membership assembly, jobs fair, IT advocacy seminars and lectures, IT quiz bee for high school and college students, and other competitions.
IFIT Chairman and University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) Chancellor Glen Aguilar said IT Week is part of IFIT's "aggressive campaign to make Iloilo a major IT hub."
He said through the conduct of IT Week, IFIT aims to raise the awareness of Ilonggos on the latest trends and development in the IT industry - its products, services and businesses in the global market.
IFIT is a multi-sector organization formed in March 2006 composed of members from the academe and training institutions, industry and business, and the government.
They search for investors in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) and promote Iloilo as ICT destination.
Now on its third year, this year's IT Week has a theme "Building Our Future in I.T."
The celebration will highlight the potential of Iloilo as one of the productive IT centers in the country because of its first-rate human resource talents.
Working together for the conduct of activities for the IT Week are the Iloilo city and provincial governments, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), educational institutions, national government agencies, and existing IT industry involved in the development of the IT sector. (Press release)
