Friday, September 12, 2008 Dela Paz to grill Savannah's security details By Jay Dooma Balnig
ILOILO Provincial Police Office (Ippo) Director Ricardo Dela Paz said he would press the Savannah Subdivision management about its security measures after the robbing and killing of resident Claire Nueros.
A person tagged in the slay case, Severino Sangrador Jr., is allegedly one of the blue guards detailed at the subdivision, but his employer, Elegance Security and Detection Agency, did not inform police that he went absent without official leave (Awol) after the rob-slay incident.
The Oton police determined that Nueros was killed last August 3 by two assailants.
Dela Paz said the agency should explain further why Sangrador was hired and detailed at the subdivision even if he is not licensed. The Criminal Investigation and Detection and Region (CIDG)-Western Visayas checked with Fisags, a group responsible for accrediting security guards, and it learned that Sangrador was not accredited.
Sangrador's alleged involvement was only discovered last September 5 or a month after the members of the Oton police and CIDG raided the house of Benigno Segumban for illegal firearms possession.
In the same operation, police authorities recovered the .45 pistol of Nueros's husband among other firearms from Segumban's house in Barangay Abilay Norte, Oton.
Segumban, who was interrogated following the recovery of the firearms, revealed he is half brother with Sangrador. He later admitted upon questioning that it was Sangrador and Seguman's younger brother, Severo Segumban, who raped and killed Nueros last August 3 in her residence at Savannah Subdivision.
On Wednesday, police charged Severo and Sangrador with the killing and robbing of Nueros.
Dela Paz said the next plan is to invite the agency and its staff guards for questioning.
