Saturday, September 13, 2008 3 nabbed for illegal drugs anew
THREE persons were arrested for illegal drugs in two separate operations in Iloilo City and Sipalay, Negros Occidental Thursday.
The combined force of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Western Visayas, City Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Task Group (Caidsotg), Maritime Command (Maricom) and Iloilo City Mobile Group (ICMG) in Iloilo City and Sipalay was under the supervision of its commander Police Superintendent Eugenio A. Espejo, ICMGSOG and Maricom, together with ICMG patrol.
They are all under the direct supervision of ICMG Group Director Police Superintendent Mitchell V. Jamili.
The joint operation on illegal drugs at Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao, Iloilo City was conducted around 3 p.m. of September 11.
The said operation resulted to the arrest of Danilo Vasquez, 54, married and a resident of same place after conspiring and helping as broker to a police poseur buyer leading to the arrest of drug dealer, Benjie Rubinas, 23, single also a resident of the same place.
Rubinas sold and hand-in two small plastic sachets of shabu in consideration of P500 and P150, which are used as marked money.
Taken from the possession and control of Rubinas is the marked money used in the entrapment operation.
The two suspects are now detained at the lock-up cell of Mandurriao Police Station for violation of Section 5 and Section 26 Para (C) Article II of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2004.
Meanwhile, the PDEA-Western Visayas personnel were able to arrest Jessie Velle of sitio Banderahan, Barangay Nabulao, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental around 10 a.m. for owning six fully grown marijuana plant in his house premises.
PDEA Regional Director Roybel Sanchez said they received the information about Velle last week. Reports showed that he is cultivating marijuana plants inside his compound.
"The area is remote and mountainous and we have to walk more than a kilometer to reach Velle's house. We are thankful to our asset for the information. This simply shows that we are sincere of our campaign against drugs," Sanchez said.
Velle told Sanchez that he is cultivating marijuana plants because he uses it as alternative medicine for his mother's ailment.
It, however, did not convince Sanchez and his group.
It was learned that last March 12, the Sipalay police were also able to uproot 59 fully-grown marijuana plants in Barangay San Jose, Negros Occidental.
Charges have been filed against marijuana growers.
A marijuana plant was also turned over on Friday by the Buenavista police from Guimaras to the office of PDEA.
The said marijuana plant, which was cultivated by an unidentified owner, was uprooted at an abandoned area at Barangay Tastasan, Buenavista Guimaras. (RPS/With PR)
