Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Congressman: Politics behind fight v. Culasi bill
FIFTH District Representative Niel "Jun-Jun" Tupas Jr. said in a radio interview that politics is the reason why his colleagues in the region are opposing his House Bill 3753, which pushes for the conversion of Barangay Culasi, Ajuy into a separate municipality.
According to Tupas, who is a member of the minority, those who are getting in the way of having his bill passed before the house are all members of the majority and allies of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
"They are doing this because I belong to a different political group. They are mixing politics in the issue and that's what disturbs me," Tupas said.
Tupas added that he did not lose his temper during last week's discussion of his house bill in the House's Committee on Local Government contrary to reports.
He denied reports of having displayed improper de quorum when he and First District Representative Jannette Garin had an interpellation.
Tupas said he never displayed any violent reaction on Garin's comment on the bill.
In a radio interview, Garin said that Tupas could not easily get what he wants because proper procedures have to be followed. (EC)
