Thursday, October 02, 2008 Company backs out from Guimaras mining plan
THE company interested in conducting a mining exploration in the island province of Guimaras has temporarily abandoned its plan.
According to information, Fil-Asian Strategic Resources and Properties Corp. (FASRPC) backed out from its plan to explore certain areas of Guimaras for gold and copper deposits. However, the reason for the backing out was not revealed.
Despite the said backing out, the local folks of Guimaras, headed by Governor Felipe Nava, continue their call to the National Government to exclude the island from the list of mining prospects.
It should be known that the towns of Nueva Valencia and Jordan are targeted for mining, which would affect over 70 percent of the island province.
To recall, the Provincial Government of Guimaras barred the issuance of an exploration permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to Fil-Asian.
Governor Nava previously said that mining in the island will greatly affect the ecological system of the province, especially the local folks of the target municipalities. (EC)
