Tesda to provide Tilapia culture in Alimodian
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) will be providing a livelihood program to the upland folks of Alimodian town in Iloilo that could help add up to their source of income.

Through Director General Augusto "Boboy" Syjuco, Tesda Regional Director Buen Mondejar, Second District of Iloilo congresswoman Judy Syjuco, and the local government of Alimodian headed by Mayor Juanito Alipao, Tesda will be launching a program known as the Upland Tilapia Culture for the poor folks of Alimodian.

Mondejar said one of the potential sites of this project is Barangay 7, one of the most mountainous barangays in the town.

He added that for the meantime, Tesda and the local government unit of Alimodian are in the process of surveying potential sites where they can implement the said program.

Upon identification of suitable areas, they will coordinate with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for the fingerlings to be cultured by the beneficiaries.

Tesda and the local government of Alimodian will be the one to provide the financial needs for the program.

To make sure its effectivity, Tesda hired the services of Mrs. Naida Lasangre, Outstanding Model Employee 2007-2008 and Dangal ng Bayan Awardee, and her husband Edgardo Lasangre of Lupon School of Fisheries in Davao City, who are expert in tilapia culture.

The Lasangre couple will provide the necessary skills needed by the beneficiaries. They will also the beneficiaries how to maintain the project.

"In order to maintain this project you must be dedicated and see to it that there's a proper preparation of ponds and enough supply of water," Mrs. Lasangre said.

Tesda and the local government of Alimodian are hoping the program will be a great help for the beneficiaries.
