Mayor advises victims of 'kotong' to file complaint

ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas suggested to the extortion victims of the city's traffic aides to file official complaint to get the erring aide penalized.

He said a complaint would be material to ascertaining the proper punishment of the erring traffic auxiliary. If found guilty through proper procedures, the traffic officer could either be dismissed from service or even put behind bars.

On Thursday, two traffic aides were arrested by cops after they were caught extorting a jeepney driver. The traffic aides were identified as Rizalde Rosauro and Ike Nava of Punong, Lapuz, Iloilo City.

Treñas said these traffic aides extort jeepney drivers passing by their area of responsibility.

According to him, some traffic aides neglect their duties by not apprehending those jeepney drivers who have violated traffic rules.

Treñas said he will not tolerate such action and will make sure that they get the punishment they deserve. Thus, he enjoined all victims of extortion of traffic aides to immediately report the incident to police stations if not to his office. (EC)
