Wednesday, October 08, 2008 Mayor warns city workers on motorcycle rules By Lydia C. Pendon
FROM now on, city employees using motorcycles should wear a helmet to avoid untoward road accidents and a reprimand from City hall.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas warned City Hall employees, who are using motorcycles as their mode of transportation, to comply with regulations implemented by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Recently, Eugenio Lucena, a city employee, his wife and 12-year-old daughter were rammed down by a speeding Elf van along Barangay Dungon in Jaro district while aboard a motorcycle. The three died immediately.
Treñas said a standing order from the LTO showed that motorcycle driver and passengers must wear protective headgear as protection in any road accidents.
Lucena is a regular employee of the city agriculture office and reportedly has been using a motorcycle as his and his family's main mode of transportation.
The City Government is set to give P30,000 as financial assistance.
The employees union Reach is also slated to give its financial assistance to the bereaved family.
