Friday, October 31, 2008 ERC orders Peco to report meter deposit collection
THE Energy Regulatory Board (ERC) has reiterated to all power distribution utilities in the country its 2007 order to submit the collection of meter deposits by consumers in their respective areas.
The order came on the heels of the Iloilo City Council resolution asking ERC's opinion and intervention on the refund of meter deposits collected by Panay Electric Company (Peco) to its more than 18,000 power consumers in Iloilo City.
ERC further informed that all distribution utilities including Peco are required to submit the aforesaid information.
To date, Peco has not yet submitted the same.
City Councilor Eldrid Antiquera, proponent of the resolution asking for the refund of meter deposits, said Peco has failed so far to acknowledge the action of the local legislative body and that of ERC.
Antiquera confirmed that he would be constrained to file appropriate charges against Peco for ignoring the refund of meter deposits to city power consumers, which amounts to more than P30 million. (Lydia Pendon)
