Friday, October 31, 2008 NBI agent faces raps for threatening, mauling driver
AN AGENT of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Western Visayas was arrested Thursday for charges of death threats and the beating of a jeepney driver at JM Basa St., Iloilo City.
NBI agent Mario Capilitan, 51, of Boulevard, Molo, is now detained at a cell in Iloilo City Police Station 1 after a jeepney driver identified as Angelito Cañete, 44, of Pototan, Iloilo, and a driver of Jaro-CPU passenger jeepney, reported that the agent mauled and threatened to kill him.
Cañete narrated that while he was driving along JM Basa St., Capilitan got on his jeepney and told him to proceed to Fort San Pedro.
The suspect then suddenly pulled out his gun and hit the victim in the stomach causing hematoma.
Not contented with his act, Capilitan reportedly punched Cañete several times and threatened to kill him before he fled.
The victim immediately sought police assistance and Capilitan was arrested by Chief Insp. Musa Amiong of the Iloilo City Police Office, Intelligence Section.
A caliber .38 revolver with ammunition was recovered from Capilitan's possession.
Cañete said he would file charges against Capilitan for grave threat and physical injury. (RPS)
