RP, Singapore forge intel network v. terror
President Arroyo said Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tony Tan Keng Yam have formally agreed to create a network of intelligence cooperation to combat terrorism in the Southeast Asian Region.
In a telephone conversation, Tan pledged to the President that his government would provide in-depth information on the Jemaah Islamiyah as part of their commitment in the combat against terrorism in the region.
In the conversation, the President said terrorist network now has started to target the ASEAN region and has established their set of connections within the countries in the area.
"We believe this is a long and difficult war. We believe that no country today is immune to the threat of terrorism," Tan told the President.
"If we can move together, we can strengthen both our security and economic cooperation because the war against terrorism is another kind of war," the President replied to Tan. JD
