Arroyo did not link opposition to robberies: aide By She Caguimbal-Torres
PRESIDENTIAL spokesman Ignacio Bunye thumbed down Tuesday allegations that Malacañang is repressing the opposition by linking them to a series of robbery as part of destabilization moves against the administration.
Bunye said President Arroyo never mentioned any names or groups.
"Kung ating re-review-hin yung sinabi ng ating Pangulo sa PNP ceremony kahapon (Monday), sinabi niya iimbestigahan mabuti. She has not pinpointed to any particular politician but she would like to get to the bottom of this," He said.
He added that the President even warned against resorting to witch-hunt.
"The instruction is...to investigate these particular allegations. We cannot simply brush aside these allegations, but let's investigate further," Bunye said.
Bunye earlier said the President received reports of involvement of some politicians in bank robberies and she specifically directed the PNP to look into this but "no disclosure of any names unless there are adequate evidence to support the initial information that was gathered by the PNP."
Senators Gregorio Honasan and Rodolfo Biazon said Arroyo's statement on politicians being involved in the series of robbery points to the opposition.
Honasan said the allegation of politicians being involved in the bank robberies and other criminal activities to raise funds for the coming elections is not even new.
He urged the administration to present its evidence and file the appropriate charges instead of making irresponsible announcements. |
