Senate committee to hold own probe on Pidal issue
THE Senate committee on banks, financial institutions and currencies is inclined to conduct a separate legislative hearing on the alleged money-laundering activities of Jose Pidal.
Sen. Serge Osmena, committee chairman, said he is ready to have another hearing if only to clarify things with regard banking transactions and banking laws allegedly violated by Pidal.
Unfortunately, members of the committee have not yet met to discuss the right to privacy that businessman Ignacio Arroyo, who earlier claimed he is Jose Pidal, invoked in previous hearings.
Ignacio is a brother of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, who opposition Sen. Panfilo Lacson claims is the real Jose Pidal.
According to Osmeņa, the impeachment case against Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide and deliberations on the 2004 budget have hindered the possible continuation of the hearing on the Pidal issue.
