Some secretaries want out of Gloria's Cabinet

EXECUTIVE Secretary Alberto Romulo Monday said some Cabinet officials want out of the Arroyo administration in order to "do other things."

Romulo, in a press briefing, said the Cabinet officials are aside from those who are planning to resign in order to run in the May 2004 elections.

He did not divulge the names of Cabinet members who want to resign but said "one or two" have intimated to him that they want to leave.

"I do not know the number except one or two have told me that they may want to go on to other things, you know, not necessarily a public office, an elective
public office," he said.

Romulo said Cabinet members who are planning to run would start resigning within next month to file their certificate of candidacy (COCs) before the Commission
on Elections (Comelec).

He said the Comelec has issued a resolution setting the period for the filing of COCs on Dec. 15 to Jan. 2.

"The President is referring to that time when some or several Cabinet members who have decided to run will finally toss their hats in the ring. Of course, at
that time there will be replacements for these worthy candidates for the Senate," he said.

He said among those who are expected to resign are Tourism Sec. Richard Gordon and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Bayani Fernando,
both of whom have expressed their desire to run for Vice President.

President Arroyo, in her weekly address last Saturday, said changes in her Cabinet are expected because some are resigning to run in the 2004 elections while others will be affected by "reforms" that she is planning to implement. ST
