The soap opera in April Boy's life

Poverty. Success. Deception.

These are popular elements of each and every one of ABS-CBN's successful teleseryes, but this Thursday, November 13, Maalaala Mo Kaya acquaints you with a story that incorporates all these ingredients into the true story of a music icon when it presents the life of "Idol ng Masa" April Boy Regino.

Dominic Ochoa, who won acclaim for his last Maalaala Mo Kaya as Fanny Serrano in the "Paper Dolls" episode, returns to the multi-awarded anthology in the role of April Boy.

He will be joined by Malu de Guzman and Dick Israel as Tomas and Lucy, April Boy's parents, and Cherry Lou as Madelyn.

The teleserye that is April Boy's life begins in a Kalookan slum area beside the train tracks, where April Boy grew up with his seven other brothers and sisters.

Since life was very hard for the family, April Boy learned to work hard to help his family at a very young age, and was selling food on the streets before he was even 10. It was while he started singing to attract customers as he was selling rice cakes that his talent was discovered by his mother, who then dedicated her life to making April Boy a star.

But life on the way to making hits like Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin, Paano ang Puso Ko and Esperanza was never easy, as April Boy realized.

How do his struggles to achieve his dream affect his life? His family? His dreams of a life with the woman he loves? What hardships, misunderstandings and sacrifices did April Boy, and the people who love him, undergo on the way to making him a star? And was it all worth the pain?

Dominic Ochoa plays the one and only "Idol ng Masa" this Thursday, November 13, on Maalaala Mo Kaya right after ABS-CBN's Teleserye Primetime Bida.
