Ex-basketball player face raps over QC brawl

INVESTIGATORS of the Central Police District (CPD) questioned former basketball player Paul Alvarez Monday after he allegedly hit a security guard and challenged a policeman to a gun duel at a Quezon City subdivision.
Reports indicated that Alvarez was with wife, Almira Muhlach, aboard their brown Starex van (WND 898) when the incident happened at the Pinesville gate of White Plains Subdivision in Quezon City.
The former PBA star's van was stopped by a subdivision security guard for inspection at 5 a.m. Alvarez said they were going to visit their friends, Zoren Legaspi and Carmina Villaroel
The security guard, Alfredo Bactol, demanded that Alvarez leave an identification card before being admitted inside the subdivision.
Alvarez reportedly got out of the van and shouted at Bactol: "Do you want a fight?"
Senior Police Officer (SPO1) Eddie Nacis, who happened to pass by, intervened but Alvarez vented his ire on him and even challenged the officer to a gunfight.
Alvarez allegedly attempted to grab Nacis' sidearm but backed out when the policeman fired a warning shot.
Alvarez and Muhlach were allowed to enter the subdivision. They proceeded to Legaspi's house, where Nacis and other policemen followed later to question Alvarez.
Nacis said Bactol would file charges against Alvarez.
The incident is the second controversy involving Alvarez.
Alvarez was embroiled in controversy several weeks ago after he was allegedly caught in bed with the wife of Alfred Lopez in the Lopez's house in Magallanes Village.
