Kidnappings may be part of destabilization attempts vs. gov't: Gloria

THE government is looking into the involvement of destabilizers in the spate of kidnapping incidents, which President Arroyo said occurred while the country is raking gains in the anti-drug campaign.

Arroyo made the statement as she reiterated her condolences to the family of financial manager of the Coca Cola Corp., Betti Chua Sy, who was buried Sunday, after she was found dead in Parañaque a day after she was kidnapped in Quezon City last Nov. 17.

"We shall vigorously preempt and resolve all heinous crimes. (But) we need most of all the support and cooperation of the community to maintain a high level of public safety. There could be a destabilization aspect in these events and we are monitoring it closely," she said.

The President said the government already has a comprehensive plan of action that would tackle all fronts against kidnapping but "we need every law-abiding Filipino on board."

She added that the government is doing its best to neutralize all kidnap-for-ransom syndicates operating in the country. SCT
