LP invites 4 more senators to join party

AFTER Senate President Franklin Drilon has joined the Liberal Party (LP), four more senators have been invited to be with the country's oldest political party.

Sen. Francis Pangilinan, chairman of the LP's national organizing committee, said the LP has invited Sens. Manny Villar, Ralph Recto, Joker Arroyo and Noli de Castro to join the LP.

The four senators are members of the so-called "Wednesday group" in the Senate.

"We invited them to join us and they expressed interest to be with us. The response has been positive and talks are to continue," Pangilinan added.

He also disclosed that the party is also wooing other independent senators, one of whom is Senate Majority Leader Loren Legarda, who is a former member of
Lakas-CMD.

On the other hand, Drilon would take his oath of allegiance to the LP on Nov. 28 to formalize his membership with the LP.

"I will be joining the Liberal Party because I feel comfortable with the officials of the party, with the President of the party, Rep. Butch Abad and executive vice president Mayor Lito Atienza," Drilon said.

With regard the 2004 elections, Pangilinan said the party would soon decide on who will be their Presidential bet but he also disclosed that majority of the members are inclined to support President Arroyo. JPM
