Navy to get P23M worth of uniforms, equipment

SAILORS and Marines will soon receive P23 million worth of new uniforms and personal equipment, the Philippine Navy announced Monday.

"These new equipment, which are of high quality and best suited for the soldiers, will not only enhance the operational readiness of Navy and Marine units but also boost the morale of its personnel," said Vice Admiral Ernesto de Leon, the Navy's chief.

De Leon said the new gear addresses the military's needs for new uniforms and equipment.

Sailors and Marines will be given new combat boots, safety shoes, medical pouches, swimming fins and masks, among others.

Navy and Marine units will be given portable gas stoves, satellite phones and high-power air compressors.

"These are essential needs of units operating in the country's far-flung areas and will be distributed to all Navy units, ashore and afloat," de Leon said.

Among the beneficiaries of the new gear are the Marine Battalion Landing Teams on counterinsurgency duty in the provinces of Palawan, Tawi-Tawi, Jolo and Basilan.

The satellite phones will enhance the Navy's communications capability in the field.

Most of the new gear were obtained through the Naval Logistics Center's maintenance and operating funds. The dental and medical supplies were donated by non-government organizations (NGOs). Miko Santos
