Robot to be quizzed by Malaysian police on Sipadan kidnapping By Benjamin B. Pulta
STATE lawyers Monday said captured Abu Sayyaf leader Ghalib Andang alias Kumander Robot will not be allowed to go to Malaysia but will be available for interrogation by officials of that country regarding the Sipadan kidnapping incident in April 2000.
Chief State Prosecutor Jovencito Zuņo said, "there is no problem about having him interrogated here in the country" but expressed misgiving about having Ghalib brought Kuala Lumpur for possible interrogation there.
Andang and his fellow Moro rebels abducted 21 tourists and workers from the Sipadan resort in Sabah, Malaysia, three years ago and faces indictment for kidnapping.
Palace deputy presidential spokesman Ricardo Saludo earlier said Malaysia will be allowed to question Andang.
Malaysian Defense Minister Najib Razak said a team is being formed to interview Andang, adding that information obtained from him would be useful to check crimes committed along the sea border between the two countries.
