PRESIDENT Arroyo Monday ordered the military and the police to coordinate with local candidates to put an end to alleged extortion activities of the New People's Army (NPA).
The President, in a statement from Bahrain where he is on a state visit, ordered the PNP and the AFP to come up with concrete operational plans that would foil the extortion activities, which she said "impacts on the democratic exercise."

Reports said the "campaign fees" go as high as P500,000 for each local candidate. SCT
