How to survive a tragic Christmas on 'Maalaala Mo Kaya'

HOW do you spend a Christmas without one of the people you love most in the world at your side? When your loved one is taken away merely days before Christmas day? Can you continue with all the revelry you have planned? Can you stand the merriment and cheer of the people around you as they celebrate the holidays with their families intact?

This forms the central theme behind Maalaala Mo Kaya's Christmas presentation on Thursday, December 18, as it dramatizes the events of that pivotal holiday in actor Charlie Davao's life, thirty-five years ago.

Known as one of the country's premier dramatic actors, Charlie Davao is also the patriarch of one of local showbiz's top acting clans - including Charlie's sons Bing, Charlon and Ricky Davao, who now plays his father in this exceptional episode. Jean Garcia, meanwhile, utilizes her considerable acting gifts as Emma Abiera-Davao, Charlie's first wife.

This week's presentation goes back to 1968, when Charlie was at the top of his game, both in his career and his private life. From being one of Sampaguita Pictures' top young talents, Charlie turned to television with enviable success as the star of the Channel 2 show "Codename: Apollo."

Charlie was also raising a brood of beautiful children - sons Bing and Ricky and daughters Maileen and Mariella - with wife Emma.

But what happens when an unexpected tragedy breaks up a perfect life?

What does one do when one's crushing heartbreak happens at Christmas? Can you survive? Can your family survive? Director Rory Quintos returns to helm this touching episode, written by Gilbeys Sardeja.

Maalaala Mo Kaya presents Charlie Davao's most memorable Christmas this Thursday, December 18, right after It Might Be You.
