Barbers wants Lakas to name VP bet already

SEN. Robert Barbers urged the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) Thursday to choose the runningmate of President Arroyo for the 2004 elections.

Barbers said the ruling party is running out of time in coming up with its complete slate, now that the period for the filing of certificate of candidacy has already started.

"The Lakas members are restless, kasi until now wala pang Vice President ang ating Pangulo (because until now, the President still has no vice presidential runningmate)," Barbers said.

However, in case he would not be chosen as Arroyo's runningmate, he will keep his political options open.

Barbers also urged the President to announce her choice of runningmate so that they can start drafting the campaign strategies.

"The President should decide now so we could strategize. She said by Dec. 15, but we don't know why the announcement has been delayed)," Barbers added.

However, he expressed confidence that majority of the Lakas members are backing up his candidacy for vice president and that there is overwhelming support from the leaders.

He also believed that he would be chosen by the party as Arroyo's runningmate through its selection process. JPM
