LRT to be heavily guarded on Christmas By Miko Santos
THE Western Police District (WPD) has deployed additional policemen in Light Railway Transit (LRT) stations to increase security and avert possible occurrence of the Rizal Day bombings.
WPD District Director Pedro Bulaong has ordered the deployment to protect passengers and the government owned-trains from any terrorist attack.
The WPD Tactical Operation Center said high police visibility at LRT stations started since Monday.
Additional bomb sniffing dogs and bomb experts have been deployed to LRT stations.
WPD mobile police crew and foot patrols were also directed to be on the lookout for untoward incidents.
Bulaong has ordered 3,000 police force to be on red alert, especially on Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Vacation leaves for policemen have been cancelled so they can respond to any emergency, he said.
Meanwhile, LRT operating hours have been extended since Dec. 15 in time for the Yuletide season.
The last train from the Baclaran station in the Parañaque City will leave at 9:30 p.m., instead of its regular 9 p.m. departure.
The last train from the Monumento terminal in Caloocan City, on the other hand, will depart at 10 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m.
However, on Christmas and New Year's eve, the last train from Baclaran will leave at 7:30 p.m. while that from Monumento will depart at 8 p.m.
More than 15 persons were killed, while hundreds were injured during the Rizal Day bombing.

Outside Manila, bombings also occurred in an abandoned gasoline station in Makati City, where two police bomb experts were killed. A passenger bus near Cubao, Quezon City was also bombed, killing a passenger.
