Cops to strengthen presence in major roads
By Miko Santos

POLICEMEN will be fielded to major thoroughfares in Metro Manila such as Edsa to help the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) respond to bus robbery incidents.

Police director Ricardo de Leon, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) chief, said police officers would join MMDA mobile groups in patrolling Edsa for increased police visibility.

De Leon added that the teams would also randomly inspect buses for possible illegal transport of pyrotechnic devices in the face of the ban on firecrackers.

De Leon said the PNP coordinated with the Integrated Metro Bus Operators Association regarding the operational arrangements.

De Leon said the NCRPO would continue to detail more policemen, increase police visibility, conduct checkpoints, chokepoints, and foot patrols even after the Christmas season to help maintain peace and order.

Earlier on Christmas day, De Leon made street children happy by giving them gifts and celebrating Christmas with them in Quezon City.

De Leon also launched the "Pulis Maka-Diyos" and "Pulis Mapagkakatiwalaan programs that will reflect the image of NCRPO lawmen as God-fearing and trustworthy.

The programs are part of NCRPO's campaign to win the streets and bring back the trust and confidence of the people in the Philippine National Police (PNP), particularly in Metro Manila.

De Leon said policemen should know the community well as the people's "elder brothers and sisters" in times of need.
