WEATHER bureau Philippine Atmospherical, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised public storm warning signal no. 1 Friday over the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.
Pagasa said tropical depression "Zigzag" maintained its westward direction Friday morning and continues to threaten the two regions.
The storm center was spotted 510 kms. east of Virac, Catanduanes, with coordinates 13.7°N 129.1°E and sustained winds of 55 kph.
On Saturday morning, "Zigzag" is expected to be at 290 kms. east of Virac, Catanduanes and on Sunday morning, 25 kms. northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) released Friday its warning order no. 2 on tropical depression "Zigzag".
The OCD advised residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes to be on alert for flash floods and landslides.
The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate action.
In Legazpi City, at least 348 passengers were stranded after vessels were forbidden by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to leave the port due to rough seas and the typhoon warning.
Stranded passengers in Pilar numbered to 159 and in Bulan, 25. Pilar and Bulan are located in Sorsogon.
The eastern Visayas and Bicol regions have been experiencing winds strong enough to uproot small trees, while sea travel for small fishing boats would be risky.
