Rica Paralejo's driver runs over, kills 5-yr-old By Miko Santos
A FIVE-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a vehicle driven by actress Rica Peralejo's driver in an accident at the back of Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Christmas day -- after the Parade of stars.
Jericho Barredo of 36 Macabalo St., Marulas, Caloocan City, died while being taken to the Manila Doctor's Hospital.
Traffic investigator identified the driver as Reynaldo Liwag, 25, and of San Mateo, Rizal.
He surrendered to the authorities after the incident that took place around 6 p.m.
Investigator PO1 Ricardo Peņalosa said Liwag was driving Peralejo's black Ford Expedition with license plate XDJ-914 at the back of the grandstand when he accidentally ran over the boy.
Liwag was about to fetch the actress, who participated in the parade of stars of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) when the accident occurred.
Liwag told investigators that the boy, who was with his parents and a brother, suddenly crossed the street.
Liwag said he did not see the boy crossing the street and failed to stop the vehicle in time.
When Liwag realized that he hit Barredo, he got down and took the boy to the Manila Doctor's Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, police said. The driver surrendered to the police after the incident.
Liwag is still detained at the Western Police District Traffic Enforcement Group headquarters.
Peralejo's Ford Expedition has also been impounded at the traffic office, police said.
Peralejo is part of the cast of "Malikmata", one of the entries in the filmfest, where she plays a psychic who sees dead people.
