Gov’t seeks re-raffling of LRT bombing case

* Police on red alert 3rd anniversary of Manila bombing Tuesday

GOVERNMENT lawyers are asking a Manila court to re-raffle the case of Muklis Yunos, a suspect in the Rizal Day bombings in 2000.

This, as the police have been placed on full red alert on the third anniversary Tuesday of the terrorist attack where more than 15 people were killed and many others were injured.

In a motion, State Prosecutor Peter Ong asked Judge Lucia Purgano of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 54 to allow the transfer of the case to a family court since most of the bombing victims were minors.

Aside from Yunos, the other respondents in the multiple and frustrated murder cases were Abu Bakr Faiz, who is detained in Singapore and Isamuddin Riduan, who is detained in Thailand.

Meanwhile, the Western Police District (WPD) is on full red alert for the third anniversary of the Rizal Day bombing on Dec. 30, 2000 that killed more than 15 people and seriously wounded many others.

WPD director Pedro Bulaong said the police force was placed on full red alert, following intelligence reports that members of international terrorist groups in Manila are in the city as part of their campaign in sow terror in Southeast Asia.

Chief Superintendent Bulaong said he ordered his men to place the city under a 24-hour mobile patrol starting Monday and Tuesday to prevent a repeat of the December 2000 incident.

More than 15 persons were killed and several others were wounded during the Rizal Day bombing in 2000.

Bombed were an LRT train near the Blumentritt station and Plaza Ferguson in Malate, Manila.

An explosion also occurred in a gasoline station in Makati City wherein two police bomb experts were killed. A passenger bus near Cubao, Quezon City, was also bombed, killing a passenger. Benjamin Pulta/Miko Santos
