Pangilinan gives up committees

SEN. Francis Pangilinan relinquished Wednesday his three committees now that he is the Senate majority leader.

With only two weeks left in the Senate calendar, the Upper Chamber revamped the chairmanship of several committees while committee has been offered to the minority bloc.

Pangilinan will now head the committee on rules.

Senate President Pro Tempore Juan Flavier will head the committee on education while he will turn over the health committee to the minority group. The minority bloc would be given discretion on who among them will handle the committee.

Another committee held by Pangilinan previously, the justice committee, was given to Sen. Joker Arroyo after he agreed to transfer the turn over the energy committee to Sen. John Osmena.

The ethics committee, on the other hand, was assigned to Sen. Robert Barbers.

Sen. Rodolfo Biazon, who just recently moved to the majority group along with Osmeña, has been given two more committees - defense and urban housing.

The Senate reshuffle came after Sen. Loren Legarda moved to the opposition after she decided to be the running mate of opposition presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. under the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP). JPM
