Gloria cancels Hong Kong visit following doc’s order

PRESIDENT Arroyo yesterday decided not to go on a two-day visit to Hong Kong in order to rest upon orders of her doctor.

Arroyo was supposed to leave for Hong Kong Friday at 4 p.m.

Press Sec. Milton Alingod said the visit was cancelled because Arroyo was not feeling well Thursday morning.

Presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye said he saw the President early Thursday morning and noticed that she was “matamlay (lethargic) and feeling under the weather.”

Even her activities had been limited to meetings within the Palace as compared to previous schedules where she would either visit the urban poor, launch or inaugurate a project, or attend provincial festivities.

Bunye said he later learned that the President’s doctors had advised her to rest and forego any long trips, including the visit to Hong Kong, where a case of bird flu disease has been reported.

Arroyo was initially scheduled to have a meeting with Filipino-Chinese business groups, speak before a women’s group and meet with the Filipino overseas workers in Hong Kong to check on their status before returning to Manila Saturday. SCT
