Gov't seeks continued search for missing Pinoys in Norway sea mishap
MALACAÑANG is seeking the continuation of the search for more survivors in the capsized cargo vessel Rockness in Norway.
This, as Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said “President Arroyo joins the family of the 15 missing Filipino in praying for a miracle that somehow they are still alive.”
Reports said rescuers have abandoned the search for more survivors and presumed that the 15 members of the missing crew were already entombed in the hull.
Erik Walle, spokesman for rescue services, said there is no longer a possibility of finding survivors and that they will start looking for bodies.
Meanwhile, three Filipino seafarers are confirmed dead in the accident.
Virgilio Angelo chief of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) said the two more bodies recovered were believed to be that of the missing Filipino seamen. The identities of the bodies were not ascertained.
But Jebsens Maritime Inc., the local manning agency responsible for hiring the
Filipino crew announced in a press conference at the Westin Philippine Plaza that the search and rescue operations have been called off.
The management of the employment agency expressed grief over the death of the Filipino crewmen, who have been with them for more than 10 years.
On the other hand, Angelo said they have not lost that the missing
Filipino crewmen are still alive.
Meanwhile, Jebsens said documents of the relatives of the victims are now being processed so that they can go to Norway. SCT/Marie Neri
