SC decision on Piatco contract to pave way for early opening of Naia 3: Bunye

THE government is preparing for the takeover of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) 3 following the Supreme Court’s decision Wednesday to uphold its ruling declaring as null and void the concession contract of the Philippine International Air Terminals Co. (Piatco) and three supplemental agreements.

Ricardo Saludo, deputy presidential spokesman, said the next step identified earlier by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) is for government is to file a writ of possession.

Presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye, for his part, said the Cabinet committee led by Transportation Sec. Leandro Mendoza, which is looking into the takeover of Naia III, will “prepare the blue print for the possible takeover.”

He said the committee has not been able to move because it was waiting for a final resolution of the case before the SC. He said the SC ruling will give the committee “little more elbow to start with the eventual takeover of the facilities.” SCT
