Otso Otso goes to the big screen

True to its aim to introduce unpredictable and unlikely but very successful tandems on the big screen, Star Cinema pairs new comedy superstars Bayani Agbayani and Vhong Navarro for the first time in a catchy comedy treat or mixed identities, Otso Otso Pamela-Mela Wan!

Written by Mel del Rosario, Otso Otso Pamela-Mela Wan is directed by Jerry Lopez-Sineneng, who is responsible for a string of hits like Soltera, Videoke King and Ngayong Nandito Ka.

Departing from the usual linearity of funny stories compounded by funny characters, Otso Otso does not only spring from the famous songs popularized by Bayani and Vhong, who are now dubbed the Princes of Comedy. Here is one movie filled with all sorts of gags imaginable. Its title alone alludes to the phenomenally distinctive torso dance that took the Philippines by storm.

Departing from the usual formula of slapsticky scenes, unhinged or weird characters and loopy storylines, Otso Otso Pamela-Mela Wan is a story where identities lost and found are confronted by things unlikely and unpredictable. It's a story where one tries to look for purpose and finds it in another man's shoes.

Otso Otso Pamela-Mela Wan will definitely delight all audiences! Production designer Roy Red juxtaposes the world of the privileged with the masa environment to narrow the disparity between the two. We find real people who want to make a difference in our lives.

Otso Otso Pamela-Mela Wan follows the lives of best friends Boy and Amboy who are outcasts in their respective families. Boy is the only moreno in a family of mestizos and mestizas, while Amboy is the underachiever in a family of overachievers. It doesn't help that their siblings make life hard for them. On the other hand, Mao and Dao are the twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Go. Refusing the marriages arranged by their parents, they stow away to Northern Luzon and board a ship to Taiwan. They don't know goons are sent after them.

Mao and Dao end up in Boy and Amboy's hometown, where they are treated as heroes. Unable to tell the truth, Mao and Dao pretend to be Boy and Amboy. Both men become responsible citizens, which endears them to Boy and Amboy's families.

Meanwhile, Boy and Amboy end up in the Go household. Unable to tell the truth, they pretend to be Mao and Dao. Boy and Amboy find their purpose in life by making the recipients of Mrs. Go's foundation happy with their "Otso-Otso" dance. But living a double life will always have its consequences. When the truth finally catches up with Mao and Dao and Boy and Amboy, little does either pair know what comical results would come.

Otso Otso Pamela Mela Wan also stars a bevy of young beauties like Michelle Bayle, Cherry Lou, Angeline Aguilar and Denise Joaquin. It also features Pinky Marquez, Karl Marquez, Robin da Roza, Dexter Doria and Tessie Tomas.

Another of the string of cinematic treats for the family, Otso Otso Pamela Mela Wan opens on the second week of March 2004.
