NBI summons Annabelle Rama, ex-Imelda aide in Nida probe
By Benjamin B. Pulta

SUBPOENAS have been issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to friends of slain actress Nida Blanca, a.k.a. Dorothy Jones, justice officials announced Thursday.

In a press briefing, acting justice secretary Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez said the NBI has subpoenaed actresses Annabelle Rama, Gina Pareno and Caridad Sanchez and Cherry Cobarrubias, former aide of former first lady Imelda Marcos.

Likewise summoned were a certain Victoria Santos, a niece of Jones' best friend Dingding Tantoco, and Dolly Potenciano, whose family reportedly owns the defunct Batangas Laguna Tayabas Bus Co. (BLTB).

Gutierrez said the summons sent out early Thursday morning are eyed at producing evidence to convince the US court, which had earlier turned down the Philippine government's request for the extradition of Blanca's widower, Rod Lawrence Strunk, to turn him over to Philippine authorities.

Strunk is the prosecutors' primary suspect in the murder case.

"The sending of subpoena was part of the process of the conduct of the investigation being conducted by the NBI and the CIDG for the purpose of re-filing the petition for extradition with the magistrate court in the United States," Gutierrez said.

"We think that they could give information. From the documents… review of the documents presented to us, we think… we believe that they should be subpoenaed to give information," she added.

State Prosecutor Mark Jalandoni, who is handling the case, said, "It would be premature to disclose the exact nature of information sought from them but the action that they be called to shed light was decided upon largely on the recommendation of the NBI.."
