3 COCs from abroad arrive in the Senate

THREE certificates of canvass (COCs) for votes cast by absentee voters arrived in the Senate Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The COCs from Cambodia and Laos were the first to reach the Senate last Tuesday night. The COC from Cambodia arrived at 7:58 p.m. Tuesday while the COC from Laos was received at the Senate at 9:11 p.m.

On the other hand, a COC from Palau arrived at 12:02 p.m. Wednesday.

Jose Garcia, chief of the Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau (Prib), said the three ballot boxes contained COCs for at least 1,000 ballots.

These boxes were already kept inside the premises of Senate under the tight watch of the Office of the Sergeant at Arms (Osaa) and some members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Meanwhile, the Senate is expecting other COCs to arrive within the week from South Africa, Netherlands, Brunei, Sweden, Oman, Australia, Spain, Turkey and China.

For unknown reasons, the COC from Saipan has not yet arrived as it was expected to be the first to come.

However, the Senate is already coordinating with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to determine the delay in the arrival of the COC from Saipan.

After all COCs are delivered in the Senate, they would be transmitted to the Congress for canvassing. JPM
