Explosion hits Jolo; 1 killed, 3 injured

AN UNIDENTIFIED woman died while three men were wounded in a grenade blast in Jolo, Sulu Wednesday morning.

The woman succumbed to severe shrapnel wounds while those injured were brought to a hospital in the town of Jolo.

Lt. Col. Daniel Lucero, chief of Armed Forces public information office, said the explosion happened at the crossing of Bus-Bus in the town at 8:45 a.m.

A report said a squad of soldiers on board an armored vehicle was patrolling the area when undetermined number of suspected Abu rebels hurled a grenade at it but the explosive fell short of its target. The grenade landed and blew up near a house.

The explosion hit the woman, who died instantly, and three men who sustained minor injuries.

A team of military and policemen have been dispatched in the area to hunt down the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the municipal hall of Tipo-Tipo in Basilan was razed to the ground by unidentified perpetrators Tuesday midnight. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

It was learned that the perpetrators were reportedly bodyguards of certain politicians in the town of Tipo-Tipo.

Authorities said the explosion in Jolo, Sulu and burning of the Tipo-Tipo municipal hall were both election-related. JFF
