Nene cries foul over 'dagdag-bawas'

REELECTIONIST opposition Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. Monday claimed that he has been a victim of vote padding and shaving or "dagdag-bawas" again in some municipalities in Pampanga.

He said he already filed criminal charges against members of the municipal board of canvassers of Bacolor, Pampanga for allegedly reducing the votes he received.

Facing criminal charges were identified as Chona Sagcal, chairman; Lucila Songco, vice chair; Ma. M. Magday and tabulators - Chris Infante and Alicia San
Pedro.

Pimentel said he received 6,030 votes but the board of canvassers reduced them to 603. "In the dagdag-bawas operations, I lost 5,327 votes," Pimentel said.

The senator said the act is in violation of Section 27 of Republic Act (RA) 6646 that penalizes any member of the board of canvasses who tampers, increases or decreases the votes received by a candidate in any election.

"It is noteworthy that I was the only victim of bawas operations in Bacolor. Claims by Sen. Panfilo Lacson to the contrary, notwithstanding are totally without factual basis. He received 459 votes in the town. To put it mildly, maybe he was just fed the wrong info by his spinmeisters," Pimentel added.

Pimentel warned those planning to tamper with the votes that the law will run after them.

In Bacolor, President Arroyo got 24,507 votes while her chief rival Fernando Poe Jr. had 1,389. JPM
