Army seizes 'hot' lumber in Sorsogon

ELEMENTS of the Philippine Army (PA) recovered logging equipment, 2,000 board feet of lumber and three carabaos left behind by unidentified illegal loggers in Barangay Gayong River, Bacon district, Sorsogon, Army spokesman Buenaventura Pascual announced Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Pascual said they recovered the logging equipment and lumber last August 3. He said their men were conducting a barangay visit in the place when they chanced upon a group of men suspected to be illegal loggers.

The alleged loggers scampered away upon sensing the arrival of the troops leaving behind the recovered items, which were turned over to the Environmental Monitoring Department (EMD) for proper disposition.

In Misamis Oriental, a New People's Army (NPA) member surrendered to the 8th Infantry Battalion Special Operations Team in Barangay Umagos, Lagonglong last Wednesday.

The surrenderee was identified as Janjo Maamo Panhay, 25, of Sitio Roa Roa of the same barangay.

Panhay was a member of Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP) under Front Committee 4B based in North Central Mindanao Regional Committee.

The rebel underwent debriefing. JFF
