Mahathir to speak at Philippine biz confab

FORMER Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad has confirmed his attendance to speak at the 30th Philippine Business Conference and Exhibition (PBC&E), which is organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and will be held on October 5 to 7 at the Manila Hotel.

Mahathir, a renowned international leader, will talk on Malaysia's remarkable journey to socio-economic prosperity and the lessons of globalization. He is also expected to give insights on Malaysia's rise to development and leadership past profit maximization and global expansion, which is what the conference theme "Beyond Business" is all about.

With Mahathir's attendance, PCCI president Noemi Saludo expressed enthusiasm on Malaysia's participation in the 30th PBC&E as a guest nation. "We hope to have the largest foreign delegation from Malaysia as well as the largest display and participation of Filipino companies wanting to do better business," she added.

"Malaysia has been and remains a key Asian market for Philippine exports. We have, over recent years, seen quite a lot of cross-investments between our two countries," Saludo said.

Dubbed as the biggest business event of the year, the 30th PBC&E features other components such as trade exposition, business matching, road shows and awards ceremonies and will be attended by high-level government officials. Plenary topics include poverty alleviation, improvement of education, population management, basic infrastructure development, peace and order, and good governance in public sector.

For more information about the conference, contact the PCCI secretariat at telephone number (02) 8445713, fax number (02) 8434102 or e-mail pcci@philcham.com. (PR)
