Muslim groups in Metro back Aglipay, Razon in new posts
THE leaders of Muslim communities in Metro Manila have supported the appointment of Police Deputy Director General Edgardo Aglipay as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), as well as the designation of Police Director Avelino Razon Jr. as chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
In a meeting held at the Islamic Jamma'h Grand Mosque Center in Baclaran, Paranaque City, the Muslim leaders led by National Capital Region Muslim Peace and Order Council (NCRMPOC) president Datu Tago Lucman reiterated their support to the new PNP leadership.
NCRPO deputy chief for administration Eric Javier, who represented Razon during the meeting, reported that the Muslim leaders were upbeat over the assumption of Aglipay and Razon to their respective posts because the police officials were both perceived to be honest, hardworking and efficient.
To impress their approval to the new police leadership, Javier said the Muslim leaders agreed to hold regular meetings with the NCRPO officials.
The group also pledged to actively participate in the command's anti-crime campaigns, particularly in providing information to the police via text messaging.
In the same meeting it was agreed that future meetings between the parties would be held right inside Muslim communities in Metro Manila.
Javier, likewise, pledged to donate copies of the Holy Q'oran to the organization. (Jonathan F. Fernandez)
