Studio 23 goes to the Emmys...live

BRING out the popcorn and reserve the sofa, all you dedicated couch potatoes.

September 20 is a time for celebration for all TV fans - and fans of Studio 23 in particular - as your ka-barkada network fetes television's finest with the live satellite airing of the 56th Annual Emmy Awards. Set for Monday, this exclusive Philippine live satellite special begins at 8 a.m. with the red carpet arrivals of TV's biggest stars. A repeat will be aired at 7:30 p.m.

Comedian Garry Shandling - who first hosted the Emmy telecast in 2000 and was part of the all-star lineup of comedians who co-hosted the 2003 Emmy Awards - will be hosting this year's awards.

Emmy Day is also a big day out for Studio 23, which is fielding an amazing 55 nominations from several shows in its quality lineup as well as providing a home-grown 56th Annual Emmy Awards pre-show discussion on Breakfast.

This year, Studio 23's acclaimed politically themed drama "The West Wing" leads the field with 12 nominations, including its fifth straight nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Of its stars, Martin Sheen and Alison Janney are up for awards in the Best Actor and Actress in Drama categories; John Spencer, Janel Moloney, and Stockard Channing are in the supporting categories. Matthew Perry of "Friends" returns to his recurring West role as Republican consultant Joe Quincy also scored him a nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series category

Other Studio 23 drama offerings were also feted, with "Alias" receiving eight nominations, including a Best Actress nod for lead star Jennifer Garner, 24 receiving eight nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama for star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" receiving four nods, and "Gilmore Girls" receiving one nomination.

Meanwhile, in the comedy categories, "Will & Grace" is banking on their fifth nomination as Outstanding Comedy Series, a category it won in 2000. "Will & Grace" has nine nominations this year, including nods in four acting categories for stars Sean Hayes (Outstanding Supporting Actor - Comedy) and Megan Mullally (Outstanding Supporting Actress - Comedy) and guest stars John Cleese (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series) and Eileen Brennan (Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series).

Other Studio 23 programs vying for Emmys are "Survivor", with five nominations, current Outstanding Reality Competition awardee "The Amazing Race" with four, "Two and a Half Men" with 3 nominations, and "SpongeBob Squarepants" with one nomination.

Studio 23 airs the most prestigious awards show for television, the Emmy Awards, live via satellite Monday at 8 a.m., with a primetime telecast at 7:30 p.m. the same day. PR
