Suspect in Martinez slay case charged
POLICE authorities filed Thursday murder charges against one of the two suspects arrested in the killing of Western Police District-Station 8 Chief Manolo Martinez.
Charged before the Manila Prosecutor's Office was Jun Felizardo, 28, of Block 60, Lot 33, Pangarap Street, Caloocan City.
The other suspect, a 15-year-old boy named only Totoy, was released by WPD after the witnesses admitted that they mistook him for a man who served as a look-out during the murder because of similarities in looks and physique.
In a press conference, WPD director Pedro Bulaong assured Felizardo's family that the suspect's right would be protected while his case is being heard.
Chief Supt. Bulaong also denied that police investigators tortured Felizardo to claim the killing of Martinez.
"The family and relatives of Felizardo have nothing to worry. I promise that his rights will be protected," he said.
The WPD chief said they would arrest others who murdered Martinez at the soonest possible time. He added that his men never stop hunting down the killers.
Felizardo was positively identified during the police line-up by three witnesses who saw him firing at the police colonel with the use of M16 armalite rifle along with four other men.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Avelino Razon ordered the WPD to follow proper procedures in prosecuting the arrested suspect.
Razon asked the police investigators to build a strong case against Felizardo and other suspects in the killing.
Martinez was shot dead beside the WPD-Station 8 office in Sta. Mesa, Manila last Monday. His policeman-driver Police Officer1 Conrad Cecillano and two passersby were also injured during the incident.
A group calling itself the Partidong Marxista-Leninista ng Pilipinas (Partisano) claimed the killing in retaliation for the latter's inhumane doings. (JFF)
