Studio 23's MassKara coverage 'a success'

A SEA of smiling masks became the emblem of yet another successful live coverage for Studio 23, as television's leading UHF channel aired a live nationwide broadcast of Bacolod City's Silver MassKara Festival last October 17.

Featuring popular Studio 23 and ABS-CBN celebrities as well as local television personalities from ABS-CBN TV4 Bacolod performing from three live points in the "City of Smiles", the live broadcast, entitled "Lupad Bacolod! Silver MassKara Festival", was broadcast nationwide by Studio 23 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a worldwide broadcast carried by Pinoycentral TV of The Filipino Channel.

So how did the ka-barkada network help the country join the MassKara celebrations? Well, on the main stage at the carnival grounds at the Bacolod Reclamation area, Studio 23's Vhong Navarro, Drew Arellano and Danilo Barrios anchored the proceedings with ABS-CBN TV4 Bacolod's teen personality Mel Yanzon.

The Bacolod Public Plaza, which was the site of several MassKara exhibition numbers, was anchored by F's Amanda Griffin, ABS-CBN News' Alvin Elchico, a Bacolod native and award-winning product of TV4 Bacolod, and TV4 Bacolod's Geleen Alova and Clifford Nolido.

Breakfast's "Ate Glow" and Studio 23 VJ JM Rodriguez were joined by TV4 Bacolod's Joan Visitacion on the parade grounds at Araneta Street.

And finally, TV4 Bacolod's Yasmine Pascual-Dornido went up on the ABS-CBN Sky Patrol helicopter, which was specially brought in to take aerial shots of the event.

Also on hand for special numbers were Anne Curtis and Geoff Eigenmann of ABS-CBN's hit "Hiram", Andrea del Rosario, Katya Santos, Gwen Garci and Miles Hernandez of the Viva Hot Babes, Spencer Reyes and Jhong Hilario of Studio 23's "Nginiiig: The Hidden Files", Christian Vasquez, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Carlo Maceda, and Paolo Paraiso and Star Records' artists Aliya Parcs and King. The Studio 23 special also hosted the worldwide premiere of the music video for "Lupad Bacolod Lupad," the official theme song for ABS-CBN's Coverage of the Silver MassKara Festival composed and sung by hitmaker Lito Camo.

The MassKara Festival was first conceived in 1980 as an alternative source of income for Bacolod City, then experiencing a severe economic crisis that seriously crippled the sugar industry. Envisioned as a way to save the local economy through tourism, the MassKara Festival has, over the years, become a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Negrense people to triumph over whatever difficulty or crisis may come their way.

The Silver MassKara Festival broadcast marks yet another turning point in Studio 23's evolving image as it prepares to expand its Bacolod operations. Already on its way is News Central Bacolod, which follows News Central Davao as the second locally produced version of Studio 23's award-winning newscast.
