11 perish in Quezon City fire

ELEVEN people, including four children, perished in a fire that razed two residential houses in Novaliches, Quezon City Friday dawn.

Kimberly, 5; one-year-old Tiar; Bianca, 9; Patrick, 13; Raquel, 24; Vincent, 25; Christine, 50; Magdalina, 50; Pauline Ann, 18, all surnamed Cruz; and two still unidentified neighbors, were burned to death inside their house.

Metro Manila Fire Department Chief Danilo Cabrera said fire broke out at 2:46 a.m. at the Cruz's single-story residential dwelling at Phase 3, Rainbow Homes II in Barangay San Bartolome, Novaliches.

The house is reportedly owned by Julio Cesar Cruz, who is a relative of the victims.

Fire investigators disclosed that the blaze started at the ceiling of the living room. It quickly spread to the entire area and spread to another residential house.

Cabrera said the fire reached a fourth alarm status before it was contained at around 3:47 a.m.

Firemen recovered the victims' bodies at the bedroom, comfort room and at the rear portion of the two houses.

Three others were injured in the incident. They were Jenny, 20 and Quintin, 22, both surnamed Cruz, and Jomy Randa, 9.

The Quezon City fire department has yet to determine the real cause of the fire as of press time. (JFF)
