Dennis Roldan, 6 others arrested for kidnapping
FORMER Quezon City Representative Dennis Roldan and six others, including a barangay chairman in Quezon City, were arrested Sunday by operatives of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (Pacer) in Quezon City.
Roldan, 48, whose real name is Mitchell Gumabao, was captured at his residence at No. 1 Dodge Street, Filinvest II, Quezon City. He was a former congressman of Quezon City's third district and a known actor in the Philippine cinema.
Arrested with Roldan were Octavio Garces, 50, a chairman of Barangay East Kamias in Quezon City; Romeo Orcajada, 43, of Barangay Silangan, Quezon City; Rowena Prado, 27, and Noel San Andres, 38, both of Payatas, Quezon City; Alberto Pagdanganan, 37, of Apalit, Pampanga; and Adrian Domingo, 27, also of Apalit, Pampanga.
The group of Roldan was tagged as those responsible for the kidnapping of a three-year-old Filipino-Chinese boy named Kenshi "Ke-hen" Yu in Ortigas Center, Pasig City last February 9.
Prior to the arrest of Roldan's group, elements of the Pacer rescued the victim at the suspects' alleged safe house along Harvard Street in Cubao, Quezon City.
Pacer Chief Roberto Delfin said the suspects abducted the victim in front of Chef and Brewer Café and Restaurant at the corner of Sapphire Road and Emerald Avenue in Barangay San Antonio, Pasig City.
A report said the victim, accompanied by his nanny, was on his way to his nursery school when three men, at gunpoint, forced the boy into a Hondo CRV vehicle (XDU 148) at around 9 a.m. last February 9. The boy lives in a nearby condominium.
On the same date that night, Director Delfin said the victim's family received a telephone call from a certain "Mang Ed" and demanded ransom for the release of the boy.
The Pacer chief did not say in his report how much the kidnappers demanded.
Delfin said the successful rescue operation of the boy was made possible by a concerned citizen who reported to them last February 18 the presence of "suspicious" people at an apartment along Zamboanga St., also in Cubao, the suspects' earlier safe house.
Seized from the suspects were three cal. 45 pistols; four magazines with ammunition; a black holster for cal. 45 pistol; a belt bag with a holster; a black magazine pouch; five cellular phones with simcards; a metallic-violet Toyota Corolla (WKE 486); a white Nissan Sentra ((GFJ 355); white Mitsubishi L300 van (TEF 816); a Mitsubish Pajero (XFC 399) with assorted keys; and a UP manila identification card of one Reynaldo Laxa.
Also confiscated were black wallet containing two keys; NBI badge; two NBI IDs in the name of Renato Razon, an NBI ID for permit to possess and carry firearm; blood type ID; non-professional driver's license of Pagdanganan; and assorted personal document of the suspects. (JFF)
